ComEd is committed to providing reliable, affordable clean energy to the more than 4 million customers we serve throughout Lake County and northern Illinois. We are constantly innovating and working to improve our systems to meet the challenges posed by climate change and help our customers meet the new demands of today's economy and prepare for cleaner futures.
ComEd and Lake County Partners maintain a strategic partnership where we work closely to support the growth of new and existing businesses in the area – with a focus on equitable development that benefits all communities. To help Lake County retain and expand investments in the area, our ComEd team works closely in partnership to help business customers take advantage of energy efficiency opportunities including incentives, facility assessments and building optimization measures. ComEd also supports customers’ sustainability goals by offering solar rebates and working with them to analyze beneficial electrification opportunities for their buildings and vehicle fleets.
Illinois’ electric rates continue to fall below the national average, and we’ve supported customers considering locating or expanding in Lake County instead of other states by providing a customized energy analysis comparison. Learn more in this new Fact Sheet.
Sustainability is an important component of development. What programs and services are available to help companies save money and increase efficiency?
ComEd is laser-focused on equitably expanding clean and renewable energy – and fulfilling our commitment to the new energy law, which seeks to achieve 100% clean energy by 2050. Our success depends on partners across the region working together to achieve this ambitious goal.
To assist business customers, ComEd offers a portfolio of programs focused on reducing costs and emissions. These include:
- Solar—ComEd provides incentives for business customers who want to take advantage of solar rebates of $250/kW up, to 2,000kW of installed capacity.
- Beneficial Electrification—ComEd is committed to supporting initiatives and technologies that provide cleaner air and promote healthier communities. As part of this effort, we have committed to electrify 30% of our own vehicle fleet by 2025, and 50% by 2030. In addition, we work with companies to provide analysis and support to drive their own electric vehicle adoption.
What do you see as Lake County's strengths?
Lake County – much like the rest of our region and state – offers a great place to raise a family and grow a business. With proximity to high quality education institutions, close access to transportation infrastructure to move goods around the country, and fast-growing industries, Lake County offers its residents a place to live and earn a good paying wage. Additionally – and thanks to the work of Lake County Partners and our local government and community leaders – Lake County has seen significant investment by companies in recent years, with a strong base of manufacturing companies as well as high tech-industries such as the biopharma cluster, which is one of the largest in the country. ComEd is committed to furthering this economic growth by providing companies with access to reliable power, expanding clean energy, and maintaining competitive costs for businesses.
Why did you decide to live in Lake County?
My family and I chose to live in Lake County because it’s a great place to raise a family – and it provides abundant access to transportation, allowing for an easier commute and access to work (my wife works in biopharma). We have three children and are pleased with the educational opportunities and high-quality schools in the area. We also enjoy the outdoors and spending time at the lakefront and the forest preserves throughout the county.
We appreciate your leadership and our partnership with ComEd.
