Lake County's Housing Strategy Takes Center Stage

When we commissioned a housing study for Lake County in 2023, it gave us a detailed snapshot of where the county stands and recommended strategies to meet housing needs across a range of incomes and housing types.

Since then, the responses — from countywide coalitions, municipal programs, philanthropic engagement and development proposals to strategic toolkits — have been well aligned with the study's findings and showcase the can-do spirit and equitable growth ethic that defines Lake County.

Now, we're taking stock of the housing developments in progress across the county, showing how they're creating an economic infrastructure that is attracting talent, supporting employers, and strengthening vibrancy.

If you want to know where the new projects are taking place, wondered what that construction is, or are interested in considering your housing real estate options, our recent blog post is for you.

Dan Cronin

You’re one of the newest members of LCP’s Board of Governors. What prompted you to get involved with us?

Lake County is an exceptionally attractive place to live, work, and raise a family. The county offers abundant economic development opportunities alongside charming communities and expansive forest preserves that provide open space and a high quality of life. That combination creates an environment where businesses can thrive, expand, and generate long-term economic vitality. Being part of an organization that is actively promoting and strengthening those values is what motivated me to get involved with Lake County Partners.

As the former Chair of Dupage County and the current president of law firm Power & Cronin, how does your background shape your involvement with Lake County Partners?

Having served in county government for 12 years, I believe I have a strong understanding of how effective collaboration between the public and private sectors can drive meaningful progress. My experience has given me a deep appreciation for the importance of partnership, strategic planning, and practical problem-solving.

At the same time, working in the private sector throughout my public service has allowed me to understand first-hand the pressures and challenges faced by businesses and employers. That perspective helps me contribute in a way that balances public policy goals with the demands of operating a business.

What makes Chicagoland stand out as a premier location for business?

Chicagoland stands out as a premier business destination because of our unmatched geographic advantages and extensive transportation infrastructure. The region offers direct access to major interstates, rail networks, and O’Hare International Airport—one of the busiest airports in the world—is located just minutes from Lake County.

In addition, Chicagoland boasts a highly diverse and resilient economy, which helps insulate the region from economic fluctuations that often impact more narrowly focused markets. Together, these factors create a stable, well-connected environment for businesses to grow and succeed.
